Memorial Hall 60th Birthday!

The Memorial Hall will mark its 60th birthday with a free community celebration on Saturday 7th March 2026, from 2pm to 5pm — and all residents are warmly welcome.

The event has been organised by the Memorial Hall Committee as a chance to give something back to the community that has supported the hall over the decades. “It’s our turn to give something back,” the committee says.

The afternoon promises a trip down memory lane, with a highlight being a screening of footage from the Old Time Music Hall — a beloved event that ran for five days in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Such was its fame at the time that supporters hired coaches and travelled from as far afield as South Wales to attend. Visitors will also be reminded of other popular events the hall has hosted over the years, including its regular 50:50 auctions.

Present-day users of the hall will be on hand to showcase what they do and how residents can get involved, offering a glimpse of the hall’s continuing role at the heart of village life. There will also be live music from Compton Bando, tea, cake, dancing, and food to round off the celebrations.
